The Virtual Summer Cello Festival was started in April, 2020 by forward-thinking cellist Kate Kayaian in response to the cancelations of many summer festivals due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 Coronavirus.

Knowing how important the summer months are for advanced high school and college-level cellists, she couldn’t bear to see hundreds of students miss out on the opportunities and benefits of an entire festival season.

She got to work, combining her knowledge of online teaching with her experience as a program director, festival faculty member (and long-ago participant!) and gathered an All-Star team of distinguished colleagues and mentors to create a program of offerings that would give today’s cello students the summer of their dreams, and a leg-up on their future.

VSCF is the first festival of it’s kind. 100% online, and on the cutting edge of today’s new reality of music making. Without geographical limitations, VSCF has brought together faculty and experts from all around the world to inspire, teach and mentor our next generation of cellists.
